CADETS from the county’s emergency services will attend a gathering on Saturday, with youngsters from the police, fire and rescue, navy, air force and army all due to take part.

The South Yorkshire Young Leader’s inter-service day is being held at the Lifewise Centre and will see cadets aged between 13 and 19 receiving talks from specialist police officers including a dog handler and officer from the police mounted department.

They will also receive a talk from a senior police officer about the Olympic Torch Relay in South Yorkshire.

Stuart Carvell, South Yorkshire Young Leaders Coordinator, said: “The day has been organised to promote young people in South Yorkshire and develop the confidence, leadership and team working skills of our cadets giving them the ability to influence their peers.

“It will be the first time that cadets from all five uniformed services will come together to share experiences.”
