On Friday, officers found Rocky the Doberman at the home of someone who had died in Beighton.

Inspector Jason Booth, from South Yorkshire Police, said it had been feared eight-year-old Rocky would not have a home to go to for Christmas after the upsetting loss of his owner.

He said: “Enquiries were made but not one was able to take in Rocky and it was looking like he would need to go into kennels which would have caused him even more distress after losing his owner.

“Initially it was decided to leave Rocky in his home surroundings for a few hours where he was more familiar whilst we tried to find him a home for Christmas.

“PC Rachael Attwell, one of our wildlife officers at Moss Way Police Station, came on duty and made contact with someone she knew who kept Dobermans and she in turn put us in touch with a group involved in Doberman rescues.

“Within 24 hours, Rocky was on his way to a new home out of the area to an elderly couple who had just lost their own beloved Doberman and were willing to adopt Rocky!

“Although it took some phone calls and sorting out this was worth the effort and Rocky has not only found a new home but made his new owners very happy.”
