Police called to college following reports of a stabbing

Police have been called to a South Yorkshire college following reports of a stabbing.

Officers are currently dealing with an incident at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology, Eastwood Lane, Rotherham, after receiving a report of an attempted assault.

It is understood that a stabbing has taken place.

An eyewitness said a young male student is the victim and that a number of youths are involved.

Eastwood Lane eastbound between the Howard Street and Wharncliffe Street junctions is closed.

A spokesman fro South Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to Rotherham College of Arts and Technology at about 12.50pm on Wednesday following reports that a 16-year-old boy had been assaulted.

"At this time, his injuries, believed to have been caused by a knife, are thought to be minor.

"Officers remain in the area and an investigation is now underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."

Eastwood Lane is currently closed while officers carry out enquiries in the area.
