Police call for suspicious activity around Sheffield shops to be reported following ram raids

Detectives investigating three ram raids in Sheffield have issued an appeal for ‘suspicious activity’ around shops and businesses to be reported.

They are linking three raids in the city in which cash and cigarettes were stolen by a gang which targeted a petrol station and two supermarkets this morning.

Texaco petrol station on Burncross Road, Chapeltown, was targeted at around 2.45am, then Tesco on Dykes Hall Road, Hillsborough, was raided an hour later.

 At 4.20am Spar on Pot House Lane, Stocksbridge, was also raided.

On each occasion a dark coloured vehicle was spotted.

South Yorkshire Police said: “An investigation has been launched and a number of lines of enquiry are being pursued in relation to these offences.

“We are asking for members of the local community and local shop keepers to ensure their premises are secure and to report any suspicious activity in and around convenience stores, especially when closed, to us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”

Last Friday, Tesco on Infirmary Road, Upperthorpe, was raided and the day before there was an attempted ram raid at the Tesco store on Herries Road, Southey.

On Wednesday, the Co-op on Oldfield Road, Stannington, was broken into.

It is not yet known if detectives are linking all the incidents.
