Police officers making an arrest in Sheffield called for back-up when a man was reportedly spotted with a gun.

Officers called for extra support when they arrived at a house in Halliwell Crescent, Southey, and it was suggested that a man they wanted to arrest was armed.

A police riot van and five police cars gathered outside the Forty Foot pub in nearby Wordsworth Avenue on stand-by.

An arrest was made but no other details have yet been released.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Officers attended an address on Halliwell Crescent this morning at around 7.55am to make a pre-planned arrest.
"While at the property, a man was reported to be seen with a firearm.
"Additional resources were immediately deployed into the area and a man has been arrested."
