Police have arrested a 37-year-old murder suspect in South Yorkshire after a week-long manhunt.

Stephen Sleaford, of Boston, Lincolnshire, was arrested in Barnsley on Thursday.

He was wanted over the death of Janusz Smoderek, 48, found stabbed in a garden on Sleaford Road, Boston, on September 11.

A 26-year-old woman from Barnsley has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Det Supt Stuart Morrison said: “I am grateful for the co-operation of the public who have contacted us with information about possible sightings”.

Police said Mr Smoderek died after an altercation close to a nearby Asda store.

Mr Smoderek, married with three children, worked at a local vegetable-packing firm.
