Police appeal for witnesses to ‘elaborate’ store fraud

Have your say

A Sheffield supermarket was subjected to an ‘elaborate’ fraud, police say.

The store in Parson Cross received a phone call, at around 10.35am last Sunday, from a person saying they were a cash in transit security guard who would be arriving to collect store takings.

A white man driving a blue Mercedes Vito van and wearing a blue security uniform then arrived. He provided identification and the store’s takings were allegedly placed into the van.

Concerns were raised after a receipt for the takings was not handed over. The security company confirmed the man was not an employee.

The blue Mercedes van and a silver Mini Cooper seen leaving the scene were later found burned out.

Both vehicles are reported to have been taken in recent burglaries in the city recently.
