POLICE APPEAL after Series of break-ins in Hathersage

Hathersage residents are being urged to be extra-vigilant after a series of break-ins in the village.

Over the last week, police officers have received reports of building break-ins and attempted burglaries in the community.

And the force is also appealing for any information about the incidents.

Sometime between 1pm on Monday, December 14 and noon the following day, offenders attempted to gain entry to a butchers off Main Road in Hathersage by forcing open a window.

The would-be thieves were unsuccessful but caused damage to the window frame.

At around 1am on Monday, December 14, thieves scaled the fence of Hathersage Swimming Pool on Oddfellows Road, before forcing open a hatch into the building. They then carried out a search the office; however it is unclear whether anything was stolen.

A shed at a property on The Dales was also broken into overnight on Monday, December 14 after offenders broke the padlock. Two car tyres were taken but were later found on the homeowner’s driveway.

Following the incidents, residents in Hathersage are being encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or vehicles to police, offering a detailed description where possible - which will also help officers prevent crimes wherever possible.

Homeowners are also being reminded to think about their own security to help protect their property from thieves. This includes ensuring that homes are properly locked and secure, using a good quality lock and alarm on sheds, garages and outbuilding, and ensuring that vehicles are locked with no valuables being left on display.
