Doncaster youngster Jason Peacock recently visited the nature reserve and had great success catching some Pokémon.

His mum Melanie said: “It’s a great place as Potteric is safe to walk around - there are no roads and there are really nice views whilst playing Pokémon Go.”

Nicola Scothern, regional manager of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which maintains Potteric Carr, added: “We have been having lots of fun on our Potteric Carr reserve finding Pokémon.”

The game, which lets players roam a map using their phone’s GPS location to find and catch Pokemon characters to train and battle, has become a huge hit around the world.

The main aim of the mobile phone game is to catch Pokemon - pocket monsters - which pop up along the way.

The game provides an augmented reality experience, using the smartphone’s camera to provide a live view of the world, with Pokemon superimposed.
