Plea to protect parks from cuts

LIBERAL Democrat councillors in Sheffield are urging ruling Labour members to take steps to protect parks from the impact of cuts.

Under Lib Dem control of the council between 2008 and 2011, the number of Sheffield parks with recognised Green Flag status doubled, with more of the awards than anywhere else in Yorkshire.

Lib Dems are proposing a motion at Wednesday’s full council meeting calling on officials to investigate ‘innovative’ methods of maintaining parks such as working with Friends groups and outside bodies.
