Plea to make show bloomin' lovely event

ALLOTMENT owners in Bentley are appealing for green-fingered residents across the borough to help them out tomorrow.

The Bloomin’ Bentley show at Bentley Pavilion had been facing a shortfall of entrants because residents in the village have seen their crops hit by this year’s flooding.

Now show organisers are calling on other allotment organisations to help make sure they have enough entrants.

Organisers have already paid to hire out the venue and the event will go on despite what has happened over the summer.

Event secretary Jean Whaley said: “We’ve been badly hit by the flood, and unfortunately a lot of allotment holders have lost all their vegetables.

“We’re appealing to people from other areas to come in and help us, and we’ve already had some come forward.

“Allotment holders from Hexthorpe and Highfield have been very good in coming to help us make the show a success.” The event will raise cash for the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

It runs 1pm until 4pm tomorrow, but produce to be entered for the competitions needs to be in at the show between 8am and 11am. Call Mrs Whaley on 01302 873206 for details.
