Plea for more women bosses

Have your say

SHEFFIELD-based Euro MP Linda McAvan has joined other Labour women MEPs to support growing calls for EU-wide quotas for women on company boards.

The politician, who represents Yorkshire and the Humber in the European Parliament, is among MEPs who have signed a statement to coincide with International Women’s Day.

It reads: “We have tried the self-regulation route but to date, the European Commission’s Women on the Board Pledge for Europe has been signed only by 24 companies.

“At the current rate of change it will be more than 70 years before women are anywhere near equal in terms of representation.”
