Plea for help at museum

MORE volunteers are needed to help operate South Yorkshire Transport Museum so it can continue into the future.

Management at the museum, at Waddington Way, Aldwarke, Rotherham, say operating costs are more than £4,000 per month and that efforts need to be made to make the centre more viable.

The museum has a collection of 25 old buses, dating back to the 1930s, old military vehicles, a 1948 tractor, various cars and a tram. There are also more modern vehicles.

Business consultant Richard Baker has launched the appeal for volunteers in his role as mentor to the museum.

Mr Baker said: “The museum is a charity costing £1,000 a week to operate and we need a team of volunteers - especially younger people - to help make it more viable and preserve it for future generations.”
