But who was our writer Danny Hall's man of the match in the victory? Here, he gives his player ratings from the game.

Dean Henderson - 7. Kept his first clean sheet in United colours and won't have many easier afternoons. Untroubled throughout apart from one save that hit him in a rather uncomfortable place.

Kieron Freeman - 8. Scored one, assisted another and was bright throughout. When Baldock is fit, the battle for the right-back spot will be very intense indeed. Delivered on his pre-match promise to 'take out' Yanic Wildschut

Chris Basham - 9. Superb. Joint man of the match with John Fleck, who maybe just shades it because of his goal. Basham was everywhere, and helped set up the first goal with sheer determination to win the ball.

John Egan - 8. A comfortable afternoon for the defender but his movement and poise on the ball was noticeable. Not afraid to try and do something with it, too, even if one pass did go horribly astray!

Jack O'Connell - 8. Like the rest of United's defenders, dealt well with the physical threat offered by Bolton's forwards. Looked an attacking threat on the front foot, too

Enda Stevens - 8. Could have scored inside the first minute and set up Fleck's goal, and inbetween kept Bolton's dangerman Sammy Ameobi largely quiet apart from a few flashes of brilliance. One of his better days

Oli Norwood - 8. Superb on the ball and his passes, with the inside or outside of that right foot, zipped across the Bolton turf beautifully. Plays the 'Coutts' role excellently and looks an absolute bargain

John Fleck - 9. Dominated the game. When Josh Vela fouled him near the end of the first half, it was the closest he came to Fleck all game. Capped his display with a deserved goal and if a Scotland call-up isn't close, it's a travesty

Mark Duffy - 8. Marked his comeback with a well-taken goal and showed United what they had been missing in his absence, dropping deep and linking up play with the full-backs. United are better when he plays

Leon Clarke - 8. Replaced at half time but in the first 45 minutes he used his strength and speed to hold the ball up against physical centre-halves. Clever dummy led to Freeman's goal

Billy Sharp - 7.5. Had a few good opportunities blocked by defenders but put in a typical tireless Sharp shift. Replaced by Woodburn with four minutes of normal time remaining

Subs: Richard Stearman - 7.5. Replaced Duffy in an attempt to shore up the lead, pushing Basham into midfield. United then got a third. Did what he had to do to see the game out

David McGoldrick - 8. Very good. Could have scored a stunning volley, but for a good save from Alnwick in the home goal, and was unfortunate not to get another on a day United dominated

Ben Woodburn - N/A. Replaced Sharp with four minutes left.
