Play on Miners' Strike in Dearne Valley up for national award

A critically-acclaimed play which commemorates the 30th anniversary of the MIners' Strike has been nominated for a major national theatre award.

Theatre production Coal is up for a national award.

Coal by Barnsley dancer, choreographer and director Gary Clarke is up for a Knight of Illumination Award. Lighting designer Charles Webber is nominated in the dance section for creating a distinctive look that captures the contrast between the darkness of life below ground with the realities of political upheaval. The winners are announced on September 18.
