Proposals for the development at the old Westfield School in Mosborough are being recommended for approval by council planners.

It is intended the properties will sit alongside a new £6 million football hub that Sheffield Council and the Football Association plan to build at the site.

The site has been empty for almost a decade after Westfield School moved to a new site on Eckington Road, leaving the Mosborough site in December 2006.

Miller Homes now wants to build a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom houses at the site.

A new access road off Moss Way will be created as part of the proposals.

A decision on the plans will be made by councillors on the planning committee on Tuesday afternoon.

A report by planning officers said: “The dwellings will provide adequate living conditions for future residents and provide sufficient amenity and privacy. Furthermore, the design and layout is such that the scheme will not have a negative impact on the amenities of existing residents.

“The highways within the site have been designed to reduce traffic speed and adequate off-street parking provision will be provided.

“The traffic from the development will lead to a slight reduction in the junction flow to capacity rate and lead to a marginal increase in queuing.

“However, the junction will still operate within capacity and the additional queuing will not add a noticeable difference to journey times.”

It was announced in November that a £6m state-of-the-art football facility is to be built at the site.

It is intended to be the third new ‘football hub’ in the city, with two other centres already under construction at Graves Leisure Centre, Norton and Thorncliffe Recreation Ground, High Green.
