Hathersage-based developers Blue Deer Ltd are currently developing proposals for the former fire station site opposite Chesterfield Football Club's Proact Stadium on Sheffield Road.

Tim Turner, managing director of the firm - which bought the land last year - said: "I'd love to see it used as an artisan food centre promoting all that is great about Derbyshire food - and the rest of the site could be space for offices.

"We're currently consulting with council planners and our plans will be a lot clearer in the next few weeks.

"With exciting developments like the Proact Stadium and Casa Hotel, that particular area has so much to offer. It's convenient for the town centre and it's also close to the south side of Sheffield.

"But is Chesterfield ready for something like this? I'd love to hear what the local business community and residents think."

Tim has been interested in the land since the fire station shut in 2009.
