Plan to build 150 houses on ex-Westfield School site

Plans are to be put forward for 150 homes to be built on the site of the former Westfield School off Moss Way in Mosborough, which has stood empty for almost a decade.

Local residents have been sent letters by Miller Homes about the proposals to build a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom houses.

It is intended the properties will sit alongside a new £6 million football hub that Sheffield Council and the Football Association intend to build at the site.

The letters have been sent out ahead of developers seeking planning permission from the council to build the properties.

A spokesperson for Miller Homes said: “The proposed residential plans sit within the footprint of the now demolished school and will be independently submitted by Miller Homes.

“We believe our well-considered plans will bring much needed housing to the area and will bring back into use the current brownfield site. We are now asking local residents for their views before we submit for planning consent.”

It was announced in November that a £6m state-of-the-art football facility is to be built at the site.

It is intended to be the third new ‘football hub’ in the city, with two other centres already under construction at Graves Leisure Centre, Norton and Thorncliffe Recreation Ground, High Green.

It is almost a decade since Westfield School shut its Mosborough site, with the campus closing and buildings being demolished in December 2006 as the secondary school moved two miles away to a new location on Eckington Road.
