Friends of Sheaf Valley Park are pushing ahead with plans to plant 3000 native bluebell bulbs in the green space just outside of the city centre.

The idea came about after group members were taking a stroll through the park and noticed a ‘sizeable, relatively flat and shady part of Clay Wood’ that could be improved.

They hope the bluebells will form the basis of a memorial garden and are inviting people who have lost a loved one to help out with the planting project.

Linda Hall, group chairperson, said: “We wanted to make this extra special, and dedicate this planting project to lost loved ones.

“Those involved will be able to send us a photo of their loved one, along with the person’s name, dates and a few words in tribute, and we will compile an online photo album in memory.

“There will be no plaque in the wood – the flowers, and the act of planting, will speak for themselves – but the photo album will document the dedication.

“We warmly invite everyone to join us as this is a special opportunity.”

Anyone who would like to take part in the planting is asked to meet at the Cholera Monument in the park on Sunday, November 20, from 10am.

The Friends of Sheaf Valley Park have also created a website for the project, visit www.fosvp.org.uk for more information.
