Former Armthorpe pitmen will be commemorating the 30th anniversary of the start of the 1984 miners’ strike on Sunday, March 16.
Up to 200 people are expected to gather at the Pit Club on Doncaster Road at 9.30am with Markham Main Brass Band and their banner before making their way to the location of the capped pit shafts.
There they will lay a wreath and say prayers for miners who died at the pit and since.
Afterwards they will proceed to the Memorial Garden to raise a new NUM flag which has been created by Doncaster College students.
The gathering will then head to the Coronation Club to hear speakers including the retired Yorkshire NUM president, Ken Capstick, and former Markham Main NUM secretary Jimmy Millar.
