A FAMILY fun day to help children battling cancer has been organised by students from Sheffield.

Money collected at the event, in Greenhill Methodist Church, Green Hill, will boost the coffers of Yorkshire charity Candlelights.

Sarah Risdale, who studies event management at Sheffield College, is one of the five organisers.

The 21-year-old, from Grenoside, said: “We had to find a venue and put on a charity event as part of our course.

“We chose Candlelighters because it is so unique and Yorkshire – it’s run by parents and they have been doing it for 30 years.

“They work so hard and we just wanted to be part of it.”

The fun day will include face painting, cupcake decorating, fun competitions, a pool contest and games.

There will also be a raffle and auction with prizes.

It takes place at Greenhill Methodist Church on May 12 from noon to 3pm.
