A thief stole a lorry and led police on a chase through South Yorkshire before crashing in a farmer's field.

An HGV tractor was stolen from Matlock in Derbyshire and driven to the Bramley area of Rotherham on the evening of Tuesday, July 24.

The vehicle was crashed in a farmer's field but police gave chase and managed to catch up with the suspects.

South Yorkshire Police tweeted: "It decided to try and evade officers by ramming through a farm hedgerow and driving through the wheat crop.

"It crashed and the occupants ran into the fields, however with our eye in the sky and the land shark on the ground the offenders were soon located and came into contact with a big set of teeth and arrested.

"Tea and medals all round."
