A big blaze in Sheffield tonight is believed to have been started deliberately.

The fire – which sent a large plume of smoke billowing across the city – happened on Burton Road in the Neepsend area.

Two fire engines were called to the incident at around 7.20pm.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It involved approximately 30 square metres of rubbish which was well-alight.

“The fire – which is thought to have been started deliberately – was out by 8pm.”
