A teenage girl was subjected to a terrifying ordeal when men armed with bats tried to break into her home in Doncaster.

The 17-year-old refused to open the door when a man started knocking at her home in Doncaster Road, Armthorpe, as she did not recognise him when she looked through the spyhole.

About ten minutes later a red Vauxhall Astra is reported to have driven up to the rear of the property and two men got out of the car.

South Yorkshire Police said it is alleged they were carrying bats and tried to force entry to the property via the back door, causing damage.

The teenage girl called police and the two men fled from the scene.
