The fire has ripped through a truck on the A1(M) near Doncaster.

The HGV burst into flames on the nortbound A1(M) between Warmsworth and Marr earlier this afternoon, causing the entire motorway to be closed at one stage while fire crews dealt with the inferno.

Emergency services have spent much of the afternoon between J36 and J37 following the blaze.

Highways England has said that traffic ‘trapped’ in tailbacks is now being allowed to pass the scene.

They said the motorway will remain closed nortbound to allow South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews to continue damping down before the vehicle is recovered.

Southbound traffic was held as smoke drifted across the carriageway but the road has now been allowed to reopen.

Northbound diversions are in place with motorists advised to use the A19 and A638 before rejoining at Red House.
