PHOTOS: Shock as huge blaze rips through row of terraced homes on busy street

A huge fire has ripped through a row of terraced houses alongside one of Doncaster’s busiest roads this afternoon.

Emergency services were at the scene of the incident in Balby Road after flames broke out earlier this afternoon.

The outgoing lane of Balby Road was sealed off near to the junction of Carr View Avenue as South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews tackled the flames.

Footage from the scene shows flames spreading through the rooves of the four, three-storey houses which overlook Westfield Park.

It is not known at this stage whether anyone has been injured in the incident or what caused the blaze.

It is understood that some of the houses have been converted to flats and individual bedsits.

People have been gathering in nearby Westfield Park to watch the fire crews as they tackle the flames.

Video footage shows a huge pall of smoke drifting across the area.
