Petrol station ram raid in Sheffield linked to supermarket attacks

A Sheffield petrol station was ram raided today by a gang which also attacked two supermarkets in the city, it has been revealed.

Detectives investigating the raids are linking the three incidents in the early hours of this morning.

The first ram raid occurred at the Texaco petrol station on Burncross Road, Chapeltown, at just before 2.45am.

Crooks involved smashed their way into the garage through the shutters and escaped with cash and cigarettes.

They stole the same items from a Tesco store on Dykes Hall Road, Hillsborough just before 3.55am and from Spar on Pot House Lane, Stocksbridge, at 4.20pm.

South Yorkshire Police said: “At each location, it was reported that a dark coloured vehicle was being used to cause damage to the premises, and that cash and cigarettes had been stolen.

“An investigation has been launched and a number of lines of enquiry are being pursued in relation to these offences.

“We are appealing with anyone with information about these offences to get in touch.

“We are also asking for members of the local community and local shop keepers to ensure their premises are secure and to report any suspicious activity in and around convenience stores especially when closed.”
