Petrina's national fundraising award

Petrina Goldman, founder of the Eden Dora Trust, was awarded the accolade at a ceremonoy in Leeds last month, where she came out top amongst a shortlist of inspiring Yorkshire-wide nominees.

The charity was set up after Petrina’s daughter Eden got Encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. Eden, now 12, was left with an Acquired Brain Injury - a condition which is often described as a ‘silent disability.’ The money raised by the Eden Dora Trust has contributed to weekend retreats for children and their families, training and research into Encephalitis and resulting ABI, along with support for families and children.

Since starting the Eden Dora Trust, just over three years ago, Petrina has raised more than £400,000 - entering teams in to a number of long distance runs, Ironman triathlons, skydives and less daring exploits including sponsored ‘onesie’ days and family fun events.

Petrina said: ““It was such an honour to be nominated for this award, and to win it is just amazing. I am delighted and so proud of all the efforts of our fundraising committee and everyone who has donated, campaigned and fundraised on behalf of the charity. I hope this recognition will help us to really build awareness of childhood Encephalitis and ABI and the devastating effects it has on children and their families, to create a more informed and supportive society. This can happen to anyone, at any age, at anytime, anywhere.”
