A pervert who sexually assaulted a Shetland pony has been jailed for seven more years after admitting possession of a disturbing ‘snuff movie’.

Doncaster man Alan Barnfield, who is also a convicted rapist, was told the film, depicting a young woman’s rape and murder, had chilling similarities to the rape he had carried out in 2001 as both involved strangulation.

Sentencing him at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, Judge Peter Kelson QC told him: “The video is deeply disturbing because it echoes the rape you committed.

“It is extremely unsettling that you are still getting sexual gratification from a video so similar to the crime you committed.

“I cannot regard you as anything other than dangerous.

“By filling your mind with these images, you will seek to act them out once again.”

Barnfield, aged 45, changed his pleas mid-way through his latest trial this week and admitted possessing ‘deeply disturbing’ pornographic material relating to children and animals.

His guilty pleas related to three charges of possessing videos and images – including the film depicting a young woman’s violent rape and murder.

He had previously admitted three further charges in November 2013.

The videos and images came to light when police searched Barnfield’s flat following reports he had had sexual intercourse with a Shetland pony.

He was cleared of having sex with the pony, named Sky, but was found guilty of outraging public decency by a jury in January and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence.

More than 47,000 indecent images and 1,400 pornographic videos were found on an external hard drive at his flat on Hexthorpe Lane, Doncaster. Most were legal but some were described as ‘more serious,’ including videos and images of people engaging in sexual activity with a great Dane and horses.

The ‘snuff’ video, depicting an acted violent rape and murder of a young woman by her father, was described as ‘deeply disturbing’ by Judge Kelson due to Barnfield’s previous conviction of raping a 16-year old girl and strangling her with her own clothing.

In addition to his jail time, Barnfield was also given a sexual harm prevention order and will not be allowed to use the internet unless his browser history is made available to a police officer.

He is also prevented from having any contact with any child under the age of 16.
