A person died after being struck by a train in north Derbyshire this morning.

The casualty, whose details have not yet been released, died after being hit by a train on the tracks at Clay Cross at around 11.20am.

British Transport Police said the incident happened at the Clay Cross Tunnel.

A spokesman said: "Shortly after 11.20am today officers were called to Clay Cross Tunnel in Derbyshire following a report of a person being struck by a train.

"Paramedics also attended, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers continue working to identify the person so they can inform their family.

"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
