Percy Pud: Jack Martin sets new Sheffield course record as Eilish McColgan wins women's crown for third year in a row
  It was the first Percy Pud appearance for Martin who was motivated to run the get over a poor performance over the country recently in Liverpool.  He made amends in no uncertain terms, his time, 29:13,  being 29 second faster than the mark set last year by Hallamshire's Andy Heyes and his best ever for the distance on the road.  'I really enjoyed it. It's a great course and the conditions were just about perfect,' said Martin whose training is geared to making his marathon debut on London in April.  It was last year's winner Heyes who was with Martin in the first half of the race. The two quickly opened up a substantial lead but the Hallamshire man could not respond once Martin put the pressure on. Nevertheless he beat his winning time from 12 months ago by 11 seconds but was disconsolate after the race.  'I probably wanted it (the win) too much, in memory of my sister,' he said, explaining that his older sister died recently at just 35. Given the terrible circumstances it must rate as one of Heyes's best ever performances.  There was a huge gap before James Straw (Lincoln Wellington) led the chasing group home.  McColgan was ninth in a field of higher standard than last year. Her time of 32:39 was 16 seconds slower than last year but the Scottish international was pleased, especially as she started perhaps too slowly. 'I am at a different point of my training programme compared to last year,' she explained.  'Everything is geared to the European Indoor Championships. I particularly want to do well as it is in Glasgow.' Like Martin, she enthused about the course and the organisation.  Second woman was Rotherham's Natasha Hatswell. Seventh woman last year, she was almost two minutes quicker this time with 35:49. It was not surprising because Hatswell has been the strongest runner of a very powerful Rotherham squad throughout the autumn.  Of the local runners after Heyes, Tommy Horton (City of Sheffield and Dearne) was seventh, Connor Milnes (Hallamshire), eighth, Matt Craig (Hallamshire) tenth whilst Liam Walker (Sheffield Triathlon Club) completed the top dozen.  For the women, Phillipa Williams of the organising club Steel City Striders was fourth, Hallamshire's Zanthe Wray fifth and Fiona Davies (Rotherham) seventh.
