Your photos of VE Day celebrations in South Yorkshire

There is a party atmosphere as people across South Yorkshire celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marked peace in Europe after the Second World War.

Streets in Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley have been festooned with bunting and balloons as people do their best to recreate the spirit of revelry and remembrance from May 8, 1945, while sticking to the coronavirus lockdown rules.

The nation is being asked to raise a glass at 3pm today, when Winston Churchill’s speech will be broadcast on the BBC, and toast those whose sacrifices gave us our freedom.

At 9pm, everyone is invited to sing along to Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime anthem We’ll Meet Again which will be performed by the British Legion and shown by the BBC.

We’ll be sharing your photos of the commemorations here throughout the day.
