Mystery surrounds the future of a popular Meadowhall restaurant which staff claim has shut down abruptly and ‘without explaination’- leaving up to 30 people potentially ‘jobless’.

A staff member who wishes to remain anonymous claims that Coal Bar & Grill restaurant closed its doors at around 4pm yesterday (January 6) with no pre-warning.

They said: “We feel used. We worked our guts off over Christmas only to be told when everyone has gone back to work and school that the restaurant has closed.

“No clues as to what exactly has happened, or what will happen next. We’re completely in the dark.”

It is understood around 30 people work at the restaurant, based in the Oasis dining quarter.

The Telford branch of Coal Bar and Grill has also reportedly closed ‘with immediate effect’ according to posts on social media.

The firm currently operates six other branches across the country.

The Star has approached Coal Bar and Grill for comment.
