Woman dies following house fire in Sheffield

Three fire engines were deployed to Grindlow Close, Heeley, after the blaze was reported at 8.10am this morning (March 3).

Crews from Central, Rivelin and Lowedges all tackled the fire, but the woman could not be saved. Paramedics were also present at the scene.

Plumes of smoke could be seen across the city.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said.

A statement from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said: “Upon arrival they found a two-storey house well alight. Breathing apparatus-wearers entered the property but, despite their best efforts, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and our thoughts are very much with the woman’s family and friends.”
