Will the European Union flag still be flown in Sheffield after Brexit? Here's the answer

As Britain’s departure from the EU draws ever closer, all across the country plans are being drawn up to take down the union’s distinctive blue and yellow stars flag.

And Sheffield will be no different, with the city’s EU flags likely to disappear after Brexit on January 31.

While the EU flag is not flown year round on any of the city’s official council buildings, it is flown on May 9 each year – Europe Day, when the nation’s across Europe come together to celebrate their links.

And it might be that they will no longer be flown on that date either.

A Sheffield City Council spokesman said: “Both the Town Hall and Moorfoot fly the EU flags on European Day only.

“We will take directive from the Interim Chief Executive’s office if instructed to fly them after the 31 January.”
