Why this dad is sporting a red mohawk in lockdown to support Sheffield Children's Hospital

But there’s a good reason behind the bold lockdown-look.

The 33-year-old dad-of-one has gone under the clippers to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital Charity.

“Like everybody else, after ten weeks in lockdown, I really needed a haircut,” laughs Jamie.

“So I decided to try and raise some money in the process, and do a charity head shave.

“I’d seen that The Children’s Hospital Charity had issued an appeal for help with fundraising, after having to cancel so many of its events over the last few weeks, so I wanted to help.”

Jamie- who is originally from Chesterfield, but now lives in Milton Keynes – reveals he has a good reason for wanting to support the Children’s Hospital.

“When I was younger, my older brother spent quite a bit of his time in there,” he explains.

“He had a couple of complications when he was little.

“My cousin’s little boy also had to be treated there when he was born, due to water on his lungs, and they saved his life.

“I know that The Children’s Hospital Charity is working hard, during the coronavirus crisis, to ensure that Sheffield Children's Hospital and its staff have the best equipment and environment needed, now and in the future.

“Sheffield Children’s Hospital remains open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and needs all of our support, now more than ever.

“Doctors and nurses there treat every condition imaginable, battling the most complex illnesses every day.

“This is my chance to make a small difference.

So far, Jamie’s red-do has raised £687, and the figure is still climbing.

“I’m a Sheffield Wednesday fan, and so one of my colleagues said he would donate £100 if I dyed my hair Sheffield United colours,” says Jamie.

“I decided I could take the hit for a good cause.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by people’s support, and I’m hoping people might still take the time to donate.

“Every child that enters Sheffield Children’s Hospital is somebody’s son, daughter, brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild.

“Anything you can give could make a big difference.”
