'Weird' and 'terrible' mystery noises awake residents in Doncaster village

People living in and around Finningley reported being woken last night by loud noises shortly after midnight – but no one seems quite sure what may be behind the mystery sounds.

Hannah Redeyoff wrote on Facebook: “Anyone hear a weird noise right now, like fireworks?,” and another woman replied: “Yes, very loud for this time!”

Claire Harris added: “What on Earth is that terrible noise?! It sounds like loads of fireworks. It happened around the same time last night. Any ideas??

Claire Linford said: “I thought it was a train?” and added: “Like the noise of an old piston aircraft sputtering to start up like in war movies! But no way it was coming from an aircraft at the airport,” while Mark Gooch said: “Yes like a machine gun or something.”

Conor Kitching wrote: “I can’t hear bangs but I can hear a low pitch humming sound.”

Caroline Wallis posted: “Whatever it was, it happened Wednesday night too at around the same time. Woke us up both nights.”

Alison Parkinson said: “It sounded like hailstone on glass, or a popping noise, strange!Zoe Duncan wrote: “Its happened for last two nights at the same time, its really loud. It sounds a bit like fireworks when u first start listening its weird then it just stops.”

Despite much speculation, the source of the noise has not yet been confirmed.
