Cllr Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Leisure, said: "We have taken the difficult decision to cancel The Fringe at Tramlines 2020 as our partners at Tramlines have also cancelled the main festival.

"It is of paramount importance that as an authority we protect visitors, staff, organisers and other stakeholders from the spread of Coronavirus as well as continuing to protect our NHS.

"Tramlines weekend is one of the city's most anticipated events of the year, so naturally we are all extremely disappointed but it is essential that we adhere to Government guidelines, which are in place to save lives.

"We have already agreed a date for Tramlines Festival in 2021 and The Fringe, as always, will run alongside this so that we can once again celebrate and look forward to a fantastic weekend showcasing some of the best acts as well as our talented local musicians.

“For now we must continue to ask everyone, wherever possible, to stay at home and stay safe."
