Stocksbridge countryside management charity, the Steel Valley Project, are helping to raise additional funds for their volunteer work programme by selling naturally seasoned hardwood logs for use on open fires and wood burners.

Project manager Tom Newman said: “All the wood is cut by Steel Valley Project volunteers and left to season for two years under cover. It comes from the best UK tree species for firewood, and one purchaser has described it as “seriously good stuff”.

“Proceeds from the wood sales go back into the charity, meaning that every sale directly helps to improve the local environment.”

The charity, which was founded in April 1988 through a partnership between the original Stocksbridge Steelworks (now Liberty Speciality Steels) and Stocksbridge Town Council has a team of dedicated volunteers helping them to deliver their environmental and community activities throughout the year.

Their work can be seen across Sheffield, with the charity involved in the management of local habitats for the benefit of wildlife, people, heritage and the landscape.

The charity is selling the logs at £5 per net sack and offers free delivery within five miles when purchasing 10 bags or more.
