“I have recently become a Trustee of the Cathedral Archer Project although I have been a supporter of the work they do for many years, and indeed completed a sleep out to raise much needed funds.

CAP (Cathedral Archer Project) works with homeless adults from sleeping bag to employment. Based in Sheffield city centre CAP provide hot meals, access to showers and washing facilities, onsite nurses and dentists whilst also delivering workshops, volunteering and employment opportunities. Ultimately providing a safe, warm and welcoming space that seeks to provide hope, support and laughter.

“In recent months I have helped serve breakfast and also attended a rough sleeper count with Framework from 4am-7am one cold winter morning. Their dedicated team work closely with the Archer Project and other services that support those on the street.

“Of course, it’s just not the winter months that those who are homeless need help – it’s all the year round but the public, us, tend to become more aware of it when it’s cold and dark outside.

“This weekend there is a fabulous fundraising event. For the first time, the Archer Project has partnered with MosFest to put on a fundraising family music festival this Saturday 8 June, to be held at the Don Valley Bowl from 12.30pm – 11pm.

“Entry is FREE so you and your friends and family can see some great music, and then if you really want the full festival feel, be sponsored to sleep out overnight. Tent pitches are available for £25.

“Clearly this is not like sleeping out every day and the only hardship might be some rain but there is a marquee to sleep in if this happens. So this is a soft option but it really shows solidarity and some empathy for those who don’t have a choice.

“There are still places left for the sleep out and you only need to raise £50 sponsorship (you must have 10 mates who could give you a fiver). They’ll be food stalls and a bar, plus facilities.

“It’s a great idea and it would be even greater if you could join us. See you there.”
