South Yorkshire police officer bumps into woman he arrested 'a few times' and what happened is the most heartwarming thing you'll read all day

A South Yorkshire police officer has described the heartwarming moment he caught up with a former criminal in a tweet which has gone viral.

The officer, tweeted under the name TheMoustacheCop, said: “Just bumped into a lady I haven’t seen for a few years, arrested her a few times, asked how she was.

“She’s clean of drugs, got a job, house and her kids back.

“Told me I always treated her with respect even at her lowest and wished me well in my retirement.

“There is hope folks.”

His tweet has been liked nearly 2,000 times, with many people praising him for his role – however small – in helping her to turn her life around.

One person commented: “That’s wonderful. Both of you should feel very proud of yourselves.”

Another responded: “This is great. You made a difference and that must've meant a lot to her.”

And a third person said: “That’s lovely. I think your care had a positive impact on this lady. Maybe nobody cared in her past and thought ‘what’s the point’. You made her feel worthy.”

His story also prompted fellow police officers to speak out about their most rewarding moments as part of the thin blue line.

One, working for West Yorkshire Police, said: “Probably the proudest moment of my career was when I saw one of my 'regulars' speak about getting into work after many years of being regularly in trouble. He came over, gave me a hug and said ‘you were always sound with me’. Very humbling.”
