Sister of missing Sheffield woman issues desperate appeal for information

The sister of a missing woman whose bag was found in Sheffield has issued a desperate appeal for information.

Melanie Vernon was last seen on Thursday evening in the Pitsmoor Road area of Sheffield her sister Emma revealed, and nobody has heard from her since.

The 28-year-old’s cream bag, containing her laptop, a phone and some personal items, was found on Smithfield Road in Gleadless Townend on Friday morning.

Emma said: “I last spoke to her around 3pm on Thursday and she sounded happy and in good spirits but nobody has heard from her since.

“Melanie is not familiar to this area and I don’t know if she’s been out walking and got lost.

“She hasn’t made contact and I’m so worried for her. The police were alerted straight away when I was contacted about her bag being found.

“Please share her picture as we need to see if Melanie has been picked up on any CCTV in the Sheffield area.

“Please check your CCTV door cameras, and get in touch if you have seen her out walking or seen anyone looking distressed.

“We just want her home. We are so worried and just need to keep looking.

“The police have been looking for her. She is classed as vulnerable. Please keep sharing her picture. Please help me find my sister.”

Melanie is described as black and around 5ft 2ins, with long dark hair. She was last seen wearing white trainers, black leggings and a black top. She was carrying the cream bag which was found the next day.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting the incident number 570 of June 11, or Missing People on 116 000.
