Charities and organisations across Sheffield are struggling to deliver a full service due to lack of funds - many are now relying on the donations from locals in order to operate.

One duo - who set up an initiative where people put £1 into a pot each week to help someone in need - have been able to help more charities and organisations recently, thanks to increased weekly donations and top ups to their funds.

Vicki Peacock and Susanna Greenwood, of 500 Together, have expressed their gratitude to members for this, and want to encourage people to keep donating and nominating.

They said: “We really are so grateful to each and every one of you for continuing to support us so that we in turn can try to offer a bit of help to people and organisations identified by our thoughtful members.”

The latest organisation that members of 500 Together have helped, is the Cathedral Archer Project, a charity that helps the homeless achieve better lives, from providing individuals with hot food to emotional support.

The charity has had to cancel fundraising events and reduce what it is able to offer due to coronavirus restrictions.

As a result of the £250 donated by 500 Together members, Cathedral Archer Project is able to continue acting as a food and support hub for those in need.

Tim Renshaw, CEO of the charity, said: “We all know that these are unusual and frightening times. In view of the threat to health that Covid-19 presents, we have cancelled our fundraising events. We are concentrating on how to care for homeless people in a safe and sustainable way. Food, laundry, showers and health services are needed now more than ever.”

Another group to have benefitted from a £250 donation this month, is Family Voice Sheffield, an organisation that works with vulnerable families in the city.

Gleadless Valley Foodbank, and Baby Basics - a project which supports new mothers and families who struggle to meet the financial and practical demands of a newborn - also both received £250 donations last month.
