Workers in Sheffield are among the richest in the UK, according to a new survey.

The study, carried out by the UK’s leading independent job board CV-Library and conducted in partnership with Zoopla, the UK’s leading property portal, said that the city’s professionals are officially the second richest employees in Britain.

The data compares the same basic living costs against average salaries in the UK’s key cities, the study reveals the following:

Workers in Sheffield have the second highest disposable income (£1,296.27 per month).

Professionals in Leeds fall in the middle of the pack, with £1,140.82 remaining income per month.

Despite being among the richest workers in the UK, professionals in Hull receive the lowest monthly salary.

Hull is the cheapest city to rent in, followed by Aberdeen and Sheffield.

In addition to this, the study explored the average cost of purchasing a one-bed flat in each of these UK cities and reveals the percentage of monthly income that would need to be spent on mortgage repayments in Hull (17%) and Sheffield (20.2%) are the second and fourth lowest in the UK. The highest percentages can be found in London (95.6%), Brighton (47.1%) and Bristol (42.3%).

However, while salaries across the country have fluctuated since last year’s study, wages in Leeds and Sheffield have risen, while living costs have continued to drop.
