Liam Alliot, a lifelong supporter, has been appalled at the treatment he’s been given from his team.

He said: “It is frustrating, more about principle than the money They’re quick enough to take fans’ money but will not support us with fast refunds of our own money.”

Another Owls follower added: “They’ve had until September 1 to start processing rebates and set a deadline for the end of October, so what have they been doing for six to seven weeks? It’s a joke.”

Several said they had received ‘no direct contact’, despite applying over five months ago when the scheme opened on June 29.

One supporter described it as a ‘striking silence from the club’.

Shirley Holmes, a passionate fan, still hasn’t received her refund or her grandson’s, and hasn’t heard from the club in nearly two months.

She said: “I’ve still not heard a thing. I think they are treating us fans quite poorly especially when supporters from other clubs have received their money for season tickets back months ago.”

On the association’s main website, three statements have been issued, explaining the refund options, deadline for applying and the beginning of the rebate procedure.

It was claimed a 60-day period of rebate processing would begin from September 1

The most recent announcement, on October 26, said The Owls ‘were implementing a major piece of work with a new ticketing partner to ensure a system would enable a rebate selection process.’

Trevor Braithwait, Director of Communications at the club, said: “Everyone at Sheffield Wednesday would like thank supporters for their understanding and are very sorry for the delay.

"The main reason many are experiencing issues is because of the new ticketing system implemented. Everybody who applied can be rest assured to receive refunds.

"It remains difficult to contact all supporters on an individual basis, and whilst there is a desire to process all rebates as soon as possible, we cannot provide a definite deadline.

"Some other clubs are experiencing the same difficulties as we are”.
