Sheffield teen using lockdown to capture beautiful images

Liyla Sullivan-Olkun is 14-years-old and lives in Parsons Cross in Sheffield.

It was thanks to her nana, Carol, who lives next door to her that she decided to submit these photographs after she suggested other people might like to see them.

Liyla said: “I have been taking photos for around a year as my mum and stepdad bought me a good digital camera for Christmas.

“I go to Kenwood School, its an autistic school.”

A school spokesman said: “The Kenwood Centre provides full time education for KS3/4 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder primary support needs.

“In addition to this, it is likely that many of our pupils will be experiencing a degree of emotional and mental health difficulties. This may include anxiety, depression and school phobia.”

Its aims include providing an appropriate, broad and balanced high quality curriculum, mirroring where possible, mainstream education and linked as far as practically possible to the young person’s previous learning experiences.

The spokesman added, it also aimed: “To contribute to the physical and psychological recovery of the children and young people by working closely with parents/carers and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

“Support the young people in their re-integration with education by facilitating their transition back into mainstream provision or other further education/employment where appropriate.”

Lilya continued: “During lockdown I have been Facetimeing friends, and my stepdad bought me a Nintendo Switch so I have been playing Animal Crossing online with my friends also.”
