Unite Women Association seeks to support those who may be finding current times more challenging, due to language barriers, a lack of confidence or information.

It is offering assistance in English, Swahili, Lingala, French and Arabic, where individuals will be able to talk to someone and where they can be signposted to other services.

Unite Women Association said: “Lockdown is experienced differently by each person. Taking into account our cultural practices and values, women, young mothers and single fathers within the minority communities struggle in various ways to cope with lockdown day in and day out.

“Also, loneliness or frustration arising from coping with family care during the Covid-19 pandemic can impact on physical health and mental wellness.

“United Women Association understands how difficult it can be to access community support, especially for minority ethnic women.”

The group wants to ‘send heartfelt condolences to all who have lost loved ones from coronavirus’.

It also wants to advise communities to remember the current government advice.

For example, only going out when it is necessary, not inviting other people to your house and not visiting friends.

It is necessary in order to ‘protect your family, community, neighbours and loved ones’.
