Sheffield Steelers have paid tribute to a former player after his shock death at the age of 40.

The club announced the death of Jerramie Domish yesterday, and said it was ‘deeply saddened’ at the loss of the defenseman, who played for Steelers in the 2010/11 season.

Known as ‘Domer,’ he was part of the league winning team that season and later left to join Coventry Blaze, where he played for another two years.

Domish also played for Newcastle Vipers during his time playing professional ice hockey in England.

Steelers spokesman Dave Simms said: “He was a larger than life character, who was always fun and put a smile on the faces of anyone he was around.

“He will be sadly missed.”

In a statement, Coventry Blaze said: “We're saddened to hear of the passing of former player Jerramie Domish.

“A great character who will be missed by many.”

Jerramie is the son of Philadelphia Junior Flyers’ head coach Jerry Domish, who he coached with during the 2017/18 season.

Glasgow Clan’s Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Chalmers, who knew Domish during his time at Newcastle Vipers, said: “Very saddened to hear of the passing of Jerramie Domish.

“We’ve lost a character of ice hockey. Fantastic guy and we absolutely loved him during his time with the Vipers.”

It is not yet known how Domish died but he passed away in America.

Tributes have poured into him online, with fans, players and clubs all sharing their memories of him.
