Sheffield singer-songwriter to appear on The Voice tonight with chance to wow judges
A singer-songwriter from Sheffield will have the chance to wow judges on The Voice UK this evening, as she auditions in the hope one of the stars presses their button.
Chanel Yates, 21, from Broomhill, will feature on the singing competition this evening (January 16) which starts at 8.30pm on ITV 1, aiming to impress coaches Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Olly Murs and Anne-Marie with her talent.
The Sheffield singer-songwriter and media student’s audition is part of the third episode of the new 2021 series of The Voice – where the famous block button makes a return and Sir Tom Jones performs an iconic Elvis song.
Chanel previously stared in a NHS charity single among 22 other musicians in order to fundraise for front-line workers during the first coronavirus lockdown last year.
The 21-year-old musician from Broomhill performed part of the The Foo Fighters hit song ‘Times Like These’ in a group rendition to increase funds for NHS staff battling the crisis.
The joint project which took two weeks to produce, aimed to showcase the UK’s best underground music talent, while raising money for essential workers.
Chanel, who has been singing since she was 14, explained at the time why she wanted to take part.
"They're doing so much at the minute and the NHS has been a huge part of my life, they couldn't save my granddad but they helped so much with him being diagnosed with cancer in 2018.
"Without them he obviously wouldn't have lasted half as long as he did when he got diagnosed so the NHS are a huge part of my life and I appreciate them so much.”
The singer-songwriter also released a single ‘Absinthe’ in June last year as part of a tribute to Sheffield, the city where she grew up.
Chanel filmed the music video to the pop-dance track about a former toxic relationship, which took a total of three years to make, in Stanage Edge during the country-wide lockdown.
In the video, the 21-year-old wore a colourful maxi dress from one of her favourite independent Sheffield retailer’s Saypaloma, which has a shop on Ecclesall Road, paying homage to her home-town’s fashion scene.
