Getting the shopping done at your fingertips has been the most convenient method especially during the busiest time of the year but it has been a nightmare for some.

And this seems to be the case for some Sheffield shoppers who have got their parcels delivered by Hermes, a popular independent courier network.

Residents in Ecclessfield have been venting their frustrations toward the delivery service, which they claimed, has not been up to par.

One resident posted a screenshot of a map with a picture of a parcel hanging out of a letter plate apparently delivered at the wrong address.

"Hermes at it again and not even my address. Three attempts they say, not even knocked on my door and leaving parcels in that state hanging out of a door on a main road," he said.

Another resident said she had the same problem and it had cost her hundreds of pounds.

The shopper said: "Was in all weekend. Said parcel had been delivered with a signature Sunday morning. My dog could've done a better signature.

"£450 worth of items missing now. We have CCTV too and no one came onto the street at all."

A resident said such abysmal delivery service means there could be criminal elements involved.

They said: "My mum is from Parsons Cross and she, her neighbour and my cousin all from same area all had this today; a fraudulent signature and delivered but never received the parcels. They had been in the house all day!

"Mum has contacted the retailers she ordered from but also contacted the police on 101. The police were very grateful and want anyone who's experienced this to call them and report it as it is fraud/theft. So please do this."

When asked about the complaints, Hermes UK said their network continues to operate well and has recorded a very high successful delivery rate.

A spokesperson said: "The Hermes network continues to operate well following the Black Friday weekend, which saw an unprecedented surge in sales for our retail customers.

"Last week we successfully delivered 13 million parcels across the country and we will be delivering seven days a week until Christmas.

"Our successful delivery rate currently stands at 98%. We would urge any customers experiencing delivery issues to contact the retailer/seller in line with industry practice."
